What would happen if all fifty states seceded?

There is a liberal group in Vermont that has supported leaving the Union for years. I thought they were crazy, but now I wonder if they are right. I am a Conservative and I don't want to see our nation torn apart, but when I look at the wide gap between the left and the right, sometimes I wonder if we would be better of going our separate ways and having two separate countries, The Liberal States of America and the Conservative States of America.
